About Aidan Halligan

Professor Aidan Halligan was the first NHS Director of Clinical Governance, and from January 2003 until October 2005, Aidan served in the UK Department of Health as Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England, with responsibility for issues of clinical governance, patient safety and quality of care across the NHS in England.

He was then Chief of Safety, Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust, and Director of Education, University College London Hospitals NHS Trust. His teaching interests related to leadership in healthcare. He died in April 2015.
