Deborah qualified in medicine in 1990 from The Middlesex Hospital Medical School and trained as a general practitioner. She began her academic career at Barts and the Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry as an academic fellow in primary care and joined what was the Royal Free Medical School as a Lecturer in the Department of Primary Care and Population Sciences in 1996.
She joined the Academic Centre for Medical Education in 2002 as a Senior Lecturer in Medical Education and became Deputy Director of UCL Medical School in 2010. Deborah was appointed Interim Director in the summer of 2014 and to the substantive post in April 2015 when she was also appointed to to a Chair of Medical Education.
Becoming Professor of Medical Education at UCL in April 2015, Deborah is now Director of the UCL Medical School.
